Biography
Hello,
I'm Nicola, a mother of four children. My youngest daughter has Down Syndrome and is currently in the process of transitioning to adult services. Additionally, my son was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome towards the end of year 7, and he's now 21. Each of their journeys has been unique, presenting our family with various challenges along the way. Despite the difficulties, I remain committed to supporting them through every obstacle we face on a daily basis.
Joining the Parent Carer Forum has been a transformative experience for me. I sought out this community to expand my knowledge and gain empowerment. In just over a year of being part of the forum, I've found immense joy in connecting with others who understand the journey of parenting children with diverse needs. My son's diagnosis made me realise how much I still had to learn, and I'm determined to use my newfound knowledge to support other families facing similar challenges.
Before joining the forum, I would have described myself as someone who simply accepted the status quo. However, being part of this community has given me a renewed sense of purpose and strength. I now feel empowered to challenge the norm and confidently express mine and our member's thoughts and concerns.
