A Parent Carer Forum is a group made up of parents and carers who take care of children and/or young people with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities. Their role is to team up with local authorities, schools, health services, and other groups to make sure that the services provided, meet the needs of disabled children and their families.
Parent Carer participation means that parents and professionals join forces, respecting each other's expertise, to make smart choices about children's services that use time and money wisely.
WHAT WE DO
West Northants Voices in Partnership collaborates with West Northants Council, The Children's Trust, and the Northamptonshire Integrated Care Board ICB. We act as both a strategic partner and a trusted advisor.
The Forum has strong relationships and is trusted by parent carers of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities aged 0-25.
We are experts because we live it. We understand the challenges of raising a child with SEND.
We provide opportunities for parent carers to get involved through coffee events, social media, and surveys. This input helps shape decisions made by local authorities and the ICB.
As a new parent carer forum our pace is slow - we want to make sure we do everything correctly. Moving forward we will continue to enhance our parent participation opportunities by hosting conferences, training and focus groups.
We work together with service commissioners and providers, using our knowledge and experience to improve the quality, range, and accessibility of services. Ultimately, our goal is to create better outcomes for families through participation and engagement.
