Biography

Hi,

I’m Barry a father of four.
My two youngest children (now both adults) have special educational needs.
My youngest daughter was born with Down’s syndrome and is currently on the path for an ASD diagnosis.
My son was diagnosed with high functioning ASD whilst still at secondary school.
It’s been quite a learning curve and at times very challenging for the whole family.
My wife now dedicates much of her spare time to helping other parents going through similar situations.

I feel it’s vitally important to give SEN children and young adults all the assistance and encouragement they need to help them realise their full potential.
As parents we were extremely proud when our youngest daughter recently started part-time, paid work in the HR department of GXO.
Our son has also turned a corner recently and now has two part time jobs.

I’m originally from Scotland, moving down to the Northampton area for work in 1990.
I’m currently director of an electronics design consultancy.
I manage a diverse team of engineers and I’m still actively involved in design and development.

I’m looking forward to joining WVNP as a trustee.
Hopefully my problem solving skills and experiences with my own SEN children will be a useful trait to the on going success of the WVNP team.
